Procrastination is a deadly vice that can affect one's life negatively. It is a habit that one has to consciously fight against. Procrastination can range from not doing a simple house chores to not finishing a school project. There are different reasons why people procrastinate, one of the most common reason is lack of motivation. For example most students will not do their homework if they do not like the subject or if they do not know what to do. Procrastination may necessary not be laziness or bad time management but should be seen more as an emotional problem.
Procrastination can affect your life in different ways, let us take a look at some of these ways:
Causes You to Make Bad Decision
When you fail to make a decision at the right time, there is possibility that by the time you finally make the decision which will definitely be a rush time, you will make a bad decision. If you want to get a new shoe for an event for example and you wait till a day before the event, there is tendency for you to pick a wrong size.
Make You Lose Valuable Time
When you look back at times you have procrastinated, you will find out that the time you were suppose to do a particular important task and you moved it forward, you actually did not use that time for something meaningful and at the end of the day, you might likely have felt regret for not doing the right thing at the right time. Procrastination is a time waster and it does not give you value for your time.
Makes you Unsatisfied with your life
Procrastinating as a student or a worker can make your results at the end of the day very bad and make you unsatisfied and regretful since you know that you would have done better if you have not procrastinated. Working under pressure can lead you to be unproductive and can also result to low optimization of your ability and this on the long run causes low life satisfaction.
Allow You Lose Opportunities
It is said that opportunity is best met with proper preparation, since we don't know when an opportunity can come it is best that we are ready at all time and procrastination can actually make you lose great opportunities. An example will be if you were not able to meet a deadline because you procrastinated and maybe lose an opportunity to be promoted.
Delay You From Getting Help
Most people procrastinate when it comes to their health and general well-being, they feel a pain or a change in their body and they do not see the doctor or they do nothing about it though they know that something is wrong with them. This can have grave consequences as the earlier you diagnose a problem, the more easy it is to solve.
Stops You From meeting Your goals
When you are working in an organization and you are given a target to meet, if you keep procrastinating, you may eventually not meet that target. This apply to everyone regardless of what goals you are trying to meet. A student whose goal is to get an A in a test may probably not achieve that if he/she fails to study at the right time.
Ruin Your Career
Procrastination can ruin your career if you keep failing to give out your best in your work place, this can lead to you been sacked and can further lead to financial problems if you are not able to secure another job.
Allow You Develop Low Self Esteem
Procrastination can also damage your reputation, if you are known for not keeping to promises or not meeting deadlines, then people will not trust you and you begin to have interpersonal relationship problems and low self esteem.
Lead to Further Procrastination
Someone who procrastinate becomes choked up and stressed when it is deadline because he/she is trying to meet up leading to sickness and fatigue which can lead to further procrastination. When the person is sick and trying to recover, he/ she has to take a break from working and further procrastinate other things and the cycle is repeated again.
To effectively manage your time and your life, you have to stay away from procrastination, stop procrastinating and START NOW. You can always leave your comment and suggestions behind, I will like to hear from you.
