Sleep is very important to our health though a lot of us joke with our sleep. As a young person between the age of 18-35, you need 7 to 9 hours of sleep. Lack of good sleep can lead to serious and long term health problems. It can also lead to depression and affects one's mood.
We have some people who are referred to as night owls who prefer to be awake and work at night, these people tend to be very creative and are more active at night. Night owls are faced with health challenges because normally, humans are programmed to sleep at night and wake up in the morning, so going against this natural rule will definitely have consequences.
We regularly see and read that successful people do not sleep more than 4 hours, well this is a fallacy that we need to stop believing. You can plan your day well, utilize your time to the maximum, sleep at night and become very successful.
Effects Of Sleeping Late
1. It can lead to poor eating habits
When we deprive our self from good sleep and stay awake at night, we begin to crave sweet things and we end up choosing unhealthy food. Lack of sleep makes you eat more junk foods and less fruits and vegetables.
2. It can lead to weight gain
Sleeping late at night can cause one to eat more fast food and take sugary drinks which can induce weight gain. You should have a 3 hour gaps between your last meal and your sleep time. Studies have also showed that people who sleep less than 7 hours per day have high risk of obesity.
3. It reduces the amount of sleep you get
When you sleep late, you don't get enough sleep and you feel tired the whole day. Most times when we sleep late, we have to wake up early to fufill our responsibility in these 9- 5 world and end up sleeping for less than 8 hours.
4. Affects your appearance
Sleeping late makes you look exhausted and less attractive. It also makes your eyes redder, more swollen and give dark circles under the eyes.
